COVID-19 Update for ongoing Boundary Park Elementary & Frost Road Elementary Courses.

Hope you have seen the latest update today from provincial government that the schools are being closed indefinitely. If you haven’t, it is here https://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/b-c-suspends-all-k-12-classes-in-the-province-1.4856530

Since we use Surrey school board facilities, and to ensure the health and safety of all, we are switching the RPF course to an ‘online’ + later ‘in person’ format and postponing the RCF course. Details below.

Robot Component Fundamentals (RCF): Postponed until further notice.

RCF course focus on the internals of Robots and focus on building and programming them from scratch. This course can also be done online but students need the robotics kits we use. So, we will have to postpone the course until the situation get better, or students can buy/rent kits. Cost to buy the kit will be ~$350 CAD online total. We are trying to make an arrangement to rent it for $50 but too early to promise. We will be in touch with parents about this.

Robot Platform Fundamentals (RPF): Mixed format. Same date & timings. Classes to be online till COVID get better. Then switch to in person mode. Our hope is the first 7-8 classes to be online and last 2-3, ie; from May end onward to be in person assuming COVID-19 would be managed by then. If not, those will also be online.

The RPF course explore the programming of robots and configuration of them for different industries. It is an introductory course and no previous computer/programming background needed. In this course, we are already using a virtual robot to execute the programs written by students, which we can continue to use in the online format also. We will use the last in person classes to run all the programs written by students in the real robot. So, we are not expecting any issues in converting this course to an online format.

Students need a windows or Mac PC to be able to do the RPF course. It will not work on Ipads. In the real classes we were planning to give a laptop for those in need, which is not possible in the online class. So, your kid might need this for an online course. We might need some additional time to help each student install some software etc. but we will arrange that.

We are also planning to start some new mixed (online + in person in June/Aug as COVID get better) batches sooner, including during weekends. If you would rather switch to that right away by a reply email or phone call.

COVID-19 Update for ongoing Adams Road Elementary Courses.

Due to the COVID-19, BC is suspending all schools and we have to make changes to our plans too. We are moving to online format in general.

If you haven’t seen government update on school suspension, it is here https://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/b-c-suspends-all-k-12-classes-in-the-province-1.4856530 . We are switching to an online format for both courses in Adams road elementary (This is not applicable to other locations. We will post about that soon)

Robot Component Fundamentals (RCF): We are planning to rent the robotics kit students were using in the class to them to use at home and convert the class to online. Same date & timings.

Cost to buy the kit will be ~$350 CAD Adams road students do not have to buy since we can give these kits before next class. Parents please ensure the kids do not miss parts from it and return it after the course.

Robot Platform Fundamentals (RPF): Mixed format. Same date & timings. The RPF course explore the programming of robots and configuration of them for different industries. In this course, we are already using a virtual robot to execute the programs written by students, which we can continue to use in the online format also.

Our Long Term Course Structure

What makes better than other technology education institutes is our curriculum, industry & real world focus and organized, step-by-step nature of our courses.

Sharing our overall program structure as many parents asked about it. The courses we are running now are our entry level courses. We plan to roll out the next level of courses next year, if not later part of the year.

Level 1 Beginners Level. These are the two courses in this level. By the end of these two courses, students get a holistic idea about Robotics. It help them to figure out their interests/subdomains as they specialize in future.

With the RCF course, they understand internal parts of robots and integrating them using programming. With the RPF, they get a solid understanding on programming techniques for a robot and configure and customize them for various uses/industries.

All classes use projects-based approach. We start with very simple projects initially, in order to make students comfortable. Students build and program robots in almost every class. We use some of the best curriculum from around the world and customize it for use in Canada. Students are grouped into separate groups within the same batch and work on projects of differing complexity. But all of them uses block based or GUI based programming (as opposed to any syntax-based programming). They continue their studies at home using the online resources we show them in the class.

Audience: Ages 8 to 14.
Level 2  The second level is where most of the robotics and related emerging technology education happens. Student get to explore robotics and related topics with a multitude of courses. They learn real syntax-based programming languages using the conceptual foundation they gained from Level 1. Some courses will be mandatory and some optional. We work with students to set a path for them to continue their self-studies in specific areas.
At the end of these courses, creative and genuinely interested students are expected to be ready to tackle real world issues using these technologies.

We plan to start these courses in 2021. The first two level 1 courses are mandatory to join this level.

Audience: Ages 9 to 18.
Level 3  At the third level, students try to tackle real world issues they care about. Team work and Leadership will be a big part of it. We just support and mentor the students.
Level 4  We will share the information about this level in due course. It is too early to publish it.
